What is the report about?
The report, developed by the Guidelines International Network (GIN), proposes a set of recommendations for the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in health guideline development. It highlights the need for clear principles to ensure transparency, accountability, and credibility.
How did the GRADEpro team contribute?
GRADEpro, Laser AI's sister tool, and the GRADEpro team participated in the GIN working group that developed these principles, bringing expertise in guideline methodology, evidence synthesis, and AI applications in health research. The team’s contributions helped shape the framework by ensuring that AI use aligns with established best practices in guideline development, including transparency in evidence evaluation and methodological rigor.
What were the results?
The scoping review and following discussions established eight guiding principles—transparency, preplanning, additionality, credibility, ethics, accountability, compliance, and evaluation—to promote the responsible and effective use of AI in health guideline development. These principles aim to ensure that AI enhances, rather than replaces, expert judgment and maintains the trustworthiness of guidelines.
